Apple unveils new MacBook Pros, YouTube TV has an embarrassing outage and Uber lays off self-driving car operators. Here's your Daily Crunch for July 12, 2018.

1. Apple's MacBook Pro refresh puts the focus back on creative pros

On the outside, the new Pros are indistinguishable from last year's models, but on the inside, you get a six-core Intel Core i7 or i9, backed with up to 4TB of storage and up to 32GB of memory.

Both the 13- and 15-inch models go on sale today, with pricing starting at $1,799 and $2,399, respectively.

2. YouTube TV goes down during the World Cup

YouTube TV had an extended outage that was probably agonizing for World Cup watchers — but it returned as the game went into extra time.

3. Broadcom acquires CA Technologies for $18.9B in cash

The massive semiconductor supplier announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with CA Technologies, a major provider of software and solutions for IT management.

4. Ex-Tesla worker makes it official and blows the whistle to SEC

The former Tesla employee who was fired and then sued by the electric vehicle automaker has filed a formal whistleblower tip to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, alleging the company has misled investors and put its customers at risk.

5. Uber lays off self-driving car operators in SF and Pittsburgh

Despite how this might look, Uber says it's still working to resume autonomous vehicle testing in Pittsburgh this summer.

6. US Air Force drone documents found for sale on the dark web for $200

What a bargain!

7. Meero raises $45M for its on-demand photography service

Meero has been working on AI-powered algorithms so that can you can upload your photos, then the service will automagically take care of the editing.
